"I need to tithe 10% before God will bless my finances or I'm under a curse."
How it sounds in your head: My budget is already tight with rent and loans, but the church says if I'm not tithing I'm robbing God. I can't afford to tithe but I'm terrified God will curse my finances if I don't.
"So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver."
-- 2 Corinthians 9:7Religion imported Old Covenant law (Malachi 3:8-10) into New Covenant grace, making blessing conditional on payment instead of based on Jesus' finished work.
Malachi 3:8-10 is quoted constantly in churches before offering time. Testimonies of financial breakthrough always start with 'when I started tithing.' Not tithing feels like disobedience with financial consequences.
The widow gave two mites - less than 1% of any income - and Jesus praised her above the rich who gave 10%. The issue was heart posture and proportional sacrifice, not hitting a percentage quota to unlock blessing.
I REFUSE the lie that I must tithe to earn God's blessing or avoid His curse. IT IS WRITTEN that Christ redeemed me from the curse of the law - I am not under law but under grace. The Malachi 3 curse cannot touch me because Jesus became a curse for me. IT IS WRITTEN to give as I purpose in my heart, not of necessity. The BARAK blessing isn't purchased by my 10% - it was purchased by Jesus' blood and given freely. I give from overflow, not to earn what's already mine by covenant.
Your Father isn't holding blessing hostage until you pay 10% - He already gave you the blessing of Abraham and commanded increase on your storehouses based on covenant, not contribution. He's running toward you with the fatted calf, not an invoice.
