"If I had more money, I'd become materialistic and forget God."
How it sounds in your head: You don't trust yourself with abundance. What if wealth corrupts you? What if you stop praying, stop depending, stop seeking Him? Maybe God is protecting you from yourself by keeping you in lack. Financial struggle keeps you desperate for Him.
"Both riches and honor come from You, and You reign over all. In Your hand is power and might; in Your hand it is to make great and to give strength to all."
-- 1 Chronicles 29:12Enemy + religious teaching that God uses poverty as a control mechanism to maintain relationship.
You've seen people drift from God when life got comfortable, and the fear of losing intimacy with Him feels more terrifying than financial lack. Poverty seems like a spiritual insurance policy.
Solomon asked for wisdom to lead, not wealth. God was so pleased that He gave him BOTH wisdom AND riches—said 'I have also given you what you have not asked: both riches and honor.' God initiated the wealth gift because He trusted Solomon with it.
I REFUSE the lie that wealth will corrupt me. IT IS WRITTEN that riches and honor come from GOD, and what He gives is good. He gives power to GET wealth, and wealth from His hand draws me closer, not further away. Abraham, Job, Solomon—all wealthy, all intimate with God. IT IS WRITTEN that every good and perfect gift comes from the Father of lights. The BARAK blessing includes abundance, and I receive it knowing HE is my source. Wealth doesn't replace Him—it reveals His goodness.
Your Father doesn't withhold provision to control you like an insecure parent—He's the one who loaded the Israelites with Egyptian gold before they even knew Him well, trusting that His goodness would draw them. He gives freely because He IS good, not because you've proven you can handle it.
