"I need to stay connected to recovery programs forever or I'll fall apart."
How it sounds in your head: The meetings, the sponsor, the accountability—you've been told these are your lifeline. At this stage of life, you can't imagine existing without this structure. The program became your functional savior, and stepping away feels like stepping off a cliff without a safety net.
"I will lift up my eyes to the hills—From whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth."
-- Psalm 121:1-2Recovery industry co-dependency that replaces reliance on Holy Spirit with reliance on human programs—good tools made into false gods.
The program worked when nothing else did, and you've seen people who left the program relapse immediately. Your entire social structure, coping mechanisms, and identity are wrapped up in these meetings, making them feel like oxygen instead of training wheels.
Legion of demons, lived in tombs cutting himself, couldn't be bound by chains—most severe case. Jesus delivered him INSTANTLY, and when the man wanted to follow Jesus around for accountability, Jesus said NO—go home and tell what God did. No follow-up program, no support group, just sent him out IMMEDIATELY completely free.
I REFUSE the lie that my freedom depends on programs. IT IS WRITTEN that my help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth—not from meetings, but from HIM. Programs can be tools, but they are NOT my savior. I am a BRANCH connected to the VINE—Jesus is my source, my strength, my lifeline. IT IS WRITTEN that I have been given EVERYTHING pertaining to life and godliness through the knowledge of Him. I don't need a program to keep me standing—I have the HOLY SPIRIT living in me, and He is enough.
The Father isn't against helpful tools, but He IS against anything that takes His place as your source. While the program says 'you need us forever,' the Father says 'Come to ME, all who are weary, and I will give you REST.' He's inviting you into dependency on HIM—the only dependency that actually produces freedom.
