"I need to save for my grandchildren's inheritance—giving to the church is selfish when family needs it."
How it sounds in your head: You want to leave something behind, something that says you loved them and thought ahead for them. Every dollar you give away is a dollar they won't inherit. Isn't providing for your family a biblical mandate? How can tithing to a building fund be more important than securing your grandchildren's future? That feels backwards.
"A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children, but the wealth of the sinner is stored up for the righteous."
-- Proverbs 13:22Source: Enemy—twisting biblical provision for family into justification for withholding from God, using grandchildren as leverage to block the very generosity that would bless them most.
You love your grandchildren fiercely and the desire to leave a legacy is good. Scripture does say to provide for family. The choice between church budget and grandkids' college fund feels like choosing strangers over blood, duty over love.
Abraham obeyed God even to the point of offering Isaac—God swore 'In blessing I will bless you... and in your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed.' That ONE act of putting God first released blessing that flowed to Isaac, Jacob, the twelve tribes, and ultimately to every believer through Christ—THOUSANDS of years of generational blessing from one moment of radical obedience.
I REFUSE the lie that tithing steals from my grandchildren's inheritance. IT IS WRITTEN that a good person leaves an inheritance to children's children—and that inheritance comes through BLESSING, not hoarding! Abraham's obedience blessed Isaac, Jacob, and ME thousands of years later. My tithing today activates the BARAK blessing that will follow my grandchildren all their days. IT IS WRITTEN that when it goes well with the righteous, the city rejoices—my obedience creates a wake of favor that covers my entire lineage. The greatest legacy I can leave isn't money—it's demonstrating radical trust in a faithful God. They will inherit the BLESSING, not just my bank account!
Your Father doesn't make you choose between honoring Him and blessing your grandchildren—honoring Him IS how you secure their future. Like the father who blessed Jacob even though the blessing was 'stolen,' God's barak flows generationally based on covenant, and your obedience today writes a check your great-great-grandchildren will cash.
