"Rich people can afford to tithe - God understands I'm different because I'm actually struggling."
How it sounds in your head: Those testimonies about tithing working are from people with six-figure incomes who can absorb the 10%. Your situation is different - you're genuinely poor. God has different standards for different income levels. The rich should tithe; you should survive.
"So He called His disciples to Himself and said to them, 'Assuredly, I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all those who have given to the treasury; for they all put in out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all that she had, her whole livelihood.'"
-- Mark 12:43-44Source: Religion - class-based theology that creates tiers of obedience, missing that the widow's two mites were praised above the wealthy's abundance because percentages matter more than amounts to God.
The income gap is massive and real - someone making $100K losing 10% still has $90K while you losing 10% might mean skipping meals. The situations genuinely aren't comparable in practical terms, so different standards seem logical and compassionate.
The widow came to the temple treasury with only two mites - the smallest coins in circulation, barely enough for one meal. While wealthy people gave large amounts, she gave everything she had, and Jesus immortalized her as the greatest example of giving in history - her poverty made her gift more valuable, not less.
I REFUSE the lie that tithing is only for the rich. IT IS WRITTEN that the poor widow gave MORE than the wealthy in God's eyes. I am her - my two mites in obedience outweigh millions in abundance. The BARAK blessing doesn't have income requirements - Abraham was blessed, Isaac was blessed, Jacob was blessed through famine and plenty. IT IS WRITTEN that my gift is accepted according to what I have. I am the Macedonian church giving from deep poverty into abundance of joy. I declare 2 Corinthians 9:8 - God makes all grace ABOUND toward me, that I have ALL SUFFICIENCY in all things and have abundance for every good work. My economic status doesn't limit Heaven's response. I am supernaturally provided for and financially blessed RIGHT NOW.
The Father isn't grading your giving on income brackets - He's running toward you with the widow's commendation, celebrating your sacrifice from little as greater than their surplus from much, ready to multiply your faithfulness beyond what wealth could produce. You're positioned for the bigger miracle.
