"I need to read my symptoms like a spiritual barometer—maybe I'm in sin or out of faith."
How it sounds in your head: Every flare-up makes you examine your heart: Did I sin? Did I doubt? Did I lose faith? You're constantly monitoring your spiritual temperature by your physical symptoms, terrified that your body is revealing hidden sin or weak faith.
"For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified."
-- Hebrews 10:14Pharisee theology—teaching you to earn health through spiritual performance, making sickness a report card on your holiness.
Sometimes symptoms DO flare when you're stressed or spiritually struggling. The correlation seems undeniable. Plus, the Bible talks about faith and healing together, so it feels responsible to examine whether YOUR faith is the problem.
He'd been sick thirty-eight years—if sickness measured sin, he must have been the worst sinner in Israel. But Jesus didn't ask about his sin BEFORE healing him. He just healed him. Later He said, 'Sin no more,' but the healing came FIRST, freely, while he was still a mess.
I REFUSE to read my symptoms as a spiritual report card. IT IS WRITTEN that by one offering, Jesus has perfected me FOREVER—not conditionally, not temporarily, but FOREVER. My standing with God is based on the CROSS, not on my symptoms. IT IS WRITTEN that there is no condemnation for me in Christ Jesus. I don't earn healing through perfect faith; I RECEIVE healing through finished work. My faith isn't the source—JESUS is. The BARAK blessing covered Abraham when he LIED TWICE. It covers me when I struggle, when I doubt, when I'm weak. Blessing isn't based on my perfection but on HIS covenant.
The Father isn't using your symptoms to grade your spiritual life. He's the One who healed the invalid BEFORE addressing his sin, who touched lepers while they were still unclean, who called you PERFECTED while you're still being sanctified. Your body isn't a report card. It's a temple He's restoring.
