"I need to meet my family's needs first—God will understand if I skip giving this month."
How it sounds in your head: My kids need shoes, the electric bill is due, and there's barely food in the fridge. Any good father prioritizes his children over church donations. God's a Father too—He'd want me to take care of my family first. I'll catch up on giving later when things ease up.
"But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you."
-- Matthew 6:33Source: Religion's false dichotomy between God and family, making provision YOUR burden instead of HIS promise, and positioning obedience as neglect instead of trust.
Provider instinct is God-given—taking care of your family IS a biblical mandate (1 Timothy 5:8). When it's literally food versus tithe, choosing food feels morally obvious and spiritually justifiable.
A starving widow with a starving son had only enough flour and oil for one last meal before death. She gave it to the prophet FIRST—and God sustained her household supernaturally for the next three years without running out.
I REFUSE the lie that providing for my family competes with honoring God. IT IS WRITTEN to seek FIRST the kingdom, and ALL these things—food, clothing, provision—shall be ADDED. I am Abraham's seed; the BARAK blessing doesn't just cover me—it covers my HOUSEHOLD. When Abraham honored God with tithes, his entire house was blessed—not cursed, not neglected, not deprived. IT IS WRITTEN in Deuteronomy 28:8—the Lord will command the blessing on my STOREHOUSES and in ALL to which I set my hand. My obedience doesn't rob my children; it UNLOCKS their inheritance. God Himself takes responsibility for my family's needs the moment I put Him first. My God supplies ALL—not some—ALL according to HIS riches, which make my paycheck look like pocket change.
The Father isn't asking you to choose between Him and your kids—He's inviting you to watch Him provide for your kids in ways you never could. Your obedience positions Him as their provider, not you; and His resources obliterate your limitations every single time.
