"I need to keep fasting and praying until I breakthrough—some demons only come out through persistence."
How it sounds in your head: Jesus said some demons only come out through prayer and fasting, so I must not be doing enough. I need longer fasts, more prayer hours, greater desperation before I'll see freedom.
"For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast."
-- Ephesians 2:8-9Source: Misapplication of Matthew 17:21, works-based deliverance teaching that makes freedom about human effort.
The verse seems clear and her continued struggle 'proves' she hasn't prayed or fasted enough. Religious culture reinforces that breakthrough requires extreme spiritual discipline.
The disciples couldn't cast out the demon and Jesus rebuked their UNBELIEF, not their lack of fasting. Then HE cast it out with one WORD—instant deliverance based on His authority, not spiritual disciplines.
I REFUSE the lie that I must earn breakthrough through extreme fasting and prayer. IT IS WRITTEN that I am saved by GRACE, not works—and deliverance is the same. Fasting is a tool for MY focus, not a payment to GET God to move. IT IS WRITTEN that the weapons of my warfare are ALREADY mighty—not 'will become mighty after I fast enough.' Jesus gave me His NAME and His AUTHORITY. I don't beg for what He already gave; I WIELD it. Breakthrough isn't about my persistence; it's about HIS FINISHED WORK. I rest in the BARAK blessing—results based on covenant, not my spiritual athleticism.
The Father isn't waiting on the other side of your 21-day fast saying, 'Finally, enough effort.' He's saying, 'I already gave you everything—now RECEIVE it.' Your freedom was purchased; stop trying to earn what's already paid for.
