"I need to clean up my life before I can operate in spiritual authority."
How it sounds in your head: I can't take authority over demons when I'm still struggling with anxiety, comparison, and toxic relationships. I need to get my act together first. Once I've overcome my issues, then I'll be qualified to help others and fight the enemy. But right now, I'm too messy.
"For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him."
-- 2 Corinthians 5:21Religion makes authority a reward for holiness instead of recognizing holiness is a gift that enables authority.
She's hyper-aware of her struggles and contradictions. It feels hypocritical to take authority when she's battling her own issues. Logic says you can't help others until you've helped yourself.
She had FIVE failed marriages and was living with a man—total mess. Jesus met her, revealed Himself, and she IMMEDIATELY became an evangelist. She ran to her city and brought them to Jesus—many believed because of her testimony. Instant authority in her MESS.
I REFUSE the lie that I must clean up before operating in authority. IT IS WRITTEN: 'He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.' I AM righteous RIGHT NOW—not when I overcome all my issues. My authority is based on CHRIST'S finished work, not my current condition. IT IS WRITTEN: 'While we were still sinners, Christ died for us'—He qualified me in my MESS. The woman at the well had five failed marriages and became an instant evangelist. The prodigal got the RING while smelling like pigs. I don't wait for perfection to walk in authority—I walk in authority FROM my position in Christ. I am CLEAN because of His blood, QUALIFIED because of His sacrifice, POWERFUL because of His Spirit in me.
The Father isn't standing at a distance waiting for you to get your life together. He's running toward you IN your mess, putting the robe on your pig-smelling shoulders, sliding the ring on your finger, throwing a party while you're still processing the shame. Authority isn't the reward for cleaning up—it's the GIFT that enables transformation.
