"I haven't been healed because I don't have enough faith or haven't prayed correctly."
How it sounds in your head: Maybe if I believed harder, fasted longer, prayed more specifically, had the elders anoint me properly, or found the right formula, then I'd see breakthrough. Obviously something is wrong with MY faith since others get healed. Perhaps I'm just not spiritual enough.
"When evening had come, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed. And He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: 'He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses.'"
-- Matthew 8:16-17Source: Performance-based healing theology that turns faith into a work you perfect and makes your sickness evidence of personal spiritual failure.
She's seen others testify of healing and wonders what they did that she hasn't. Teaching about faith as a force you generate makes her constantly measure and doubt her own belief, creating a shame spiral where sickness proves her inadequacy.
Disciples asked whose sin caused his blindness—his or his parents—assuming suffering had to be someone's fault. Jesus said NEITHER, but that God's works would be revealed in him. Jesus spat on the ground, made clay, anointed the man's eyes (who didn't ask, didn't demonstrate faith, didn't know who Jesus was), and told him to wash—the man was INSTANTLY healed and only discovered who Jesus was AFTER his healing.
I REFUSE the lie that my healing depends on perfecting my faith or finding the right prayer formula. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus healed ALL who were sick to fulfill what Isaiah prophesied—He Himself TOOK my infirmities. My healing isn't reward for perfect faith; it's the finished work of Jesus applied by grace. IT IS WRITTEN that by His stripes I WAS healed—past tense, already purchased. The man born blind was healed before he even knew who Jesus was. The centurion's servant was healed while unconscious. I am Abraham's seed through Christ, and the BARAK blessing doesn't wait for perfect performance—it covered liars, deceivers, and murderers by covenant. I receive my healing NOW as a gift, not an achievement.
Your Father isn't grading your faith performance and withholding healing until you get an A+—He's running toward you with healing already finished, already paid for, already yours through Jesus. While you're measuring your belief, He's celebrating your breakthrough because it's based on HIS faithfulness, not your perfection.
