"I have to suffer financially now to pay for my wasteful past."
How it sounds in your head: You lived beyond your means for years. You bought things you didn't need, spent money you should have saved, enjoyed today without thinking about tomorrow. Now the bill is due. This lack is your consequence. You made your bed; lie in it.
"And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross."
-- Colossians 2:13-14Religious karma teaching that God enforces consequences and suffering is payment for past sin.
It feels like mathematical justice—years of overspending now balanced by years of lack. The religious concept of reaping what you sow seems to fit perfectly. Suffering feels like the natural, deserved consequence.
Caught IN THE ACT of adultery—the law demanded stoning, suffering, death as payment. Jesus said 'Neither do I condemn you. Go and sin no more.' No suffering. No payment. No process. Instant grace. The punishment she deserved, He would take. She walked away FREE, not to earn forgiveness but because she was FORGIVEN.
I REFUSE the lie that I must suffer financially to pay for my past. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus wiped out the handwriting of requirements against me, NAILING it to the cross. He PAID. My suffering adds nothing to His complete payment. I am not under law but under GRACE—not getting what I deserve but getting what JESUS deserves. The woman caught in adultery deserved stoning; Jesus said 'Neither do I condemn you.' IT IS WRITTEN that there is therefore NOW no condemnation to those in Christ Jesus. I am Abraham's seed, and the BARAK blessing is mine NOW by covenant, not by paying consequences. The curse was NAILED TO THE CROSS. I walk in blessing NOW because JESUS paid completely.
Your Father isn't making you suffer to balance some cosmic scale of justice. Jesus PAID. Completely. The debt is cancelled, the requirements wiped out, the curse nailed to the cross. You're not working off a debt; you're walking in the freedom of a debt ALREADY PAID. He's running toward you with blessing, not away from you demanding payment.
