"I have to stay humble and poor to stay close to God."
How it sounds in your head: If I get too comfortable financially, I'll forget about God. Maybe struggle keeps me dependent on Him. Look at all those rich people who walked away from faith—better to stay safe in lack.
"The blessing of the LORD makes one rich, and He adds no sorrow with it."
-- Proverbs 10:22Source: Religion equated poverty with piety and wealth with worldliness, twisting Jesus' warnings about money into worship of scarcity.
You've seen wealthy people drift from church and struggle-season prayers that felt more desperate and real. The correlation feels like causation.
Job was the wealthiest man in the East before his trial and God doubled everything afterward—14,000 sheep, 6,000 camels, 1,000 oxen, 1,000 donkeys. God's restoration included massive material blessing, not just spiritual comfort.
I REFUSE the lie that poverty keeps me close to God. IT IS WRITTEN in Proverbs 10:22 that the blessing of the LORD makes me rich and adds NO SORROW with it. God is not afraid of my abundance—He designed it. Abraham walked with God AND was wealthy. Solomon had wisdom AND gold. IT IS WRITTEN in Psalm 35:27 that the Lord takes PLEASURE in the prosperity of His servant. I am a branch abiding in the Vine; my connection produces fruit automatically, including financial fruit. The BARAK over my life includes being blessed in my storehouses, my work, and everything I set my hand to. I don't choose poverty to prove devotion—I receive abundance to reveal a generous Father.
Your Father doesn't want you broke to keep you humble—He wants you blessed to reveal His nature. He's not nervous about your bank account growing; He's the one filling it. You stay close to Him because He's GOOD, not because you're desperate.
