"I have to be perfect so my kids will follow Jesus"
How it sounds in your head: If I mess up, they'll think Christianity is fake. I have to have all the answers and never show weakness or they'll walk away from faith.
"Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance?"
-- Romans 2:4Religious performance teaching that makes the gospel dependent on human perfection
She's watched kids walk away from church when parents were hypocrites. She feels the weight of their eternal souls on her performance.
Peter publicly denied Jesus three times, then later Paul confronted him for hypocrisy in Galatians 2. Yet Peter wrote two books of the Bible and led the early church powerfully—his failures didn't disqualify his influence.
I REFUSE the lie that my perfection saves my children. IT IS WRITTEN that the GOODNESS of God leads to repentance, not my flawless example. I am FREE to be human, to apologize, to show grace in real time. IT IS WRITTEN in John 6:44 that NO ONE comes to Jesus unless the Father draws them. I point to Jesus—I don't have to BE Jesus. My kids see a real faith, not a fake one.
The Father is running toward you with permission to be human. He's celebrating every moment you show them grace-in-action—that's more powerful than staged perfection.
