"I have to be joyful and strong all the time or I'm failing as a Christian woman."
How it sounds in your head: I see women at church always smiling, always saying 'I'm blessed,' always posting about God's goodness. Meanwhile I'm crying in the bathroom and can barely get out of bed some days. Real Christian women don't struggle like this. I must be doing something wrong.
"The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves such as have a contrite spirit."
-- Psalm 34:18Source: Religious culture that demands toxic positivity and spiritual performance, shaming honest emotions as 'lack of faith.'
You've been taught that 'the joy of the Lord is your strength,' twisted to mean you must fake happiness to prove your faith. Vulnerability feels like spiritual failure when everyone else seems to have it together.
Just called down fire from heaven, defeated 450 prophets of Baal, saw massive victory. Then ONE threat from Jezebel and he ran, collapsed under a tree, and asked to DIE. God didn't rebuke him—He sent an angel with food and let him sleep. Instant gentle restoration.
I REFUSE the lie that I must perform joy to be a good Christian. IT IS WRITTEN that the Lord is NEAR to the brokenhearted—He doesn't shame my tears or reject my honesty. I am a DAUGHTER, not a performer, and daughters are allowed to have bad days without losing their identity. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus Himself was a man of sorrows, acquainted with grief—if HE felt deeply, so can I. The BARAK blessing over my life doesn't require me to fake strength; it flows in my WEAKNESS because His strength is made perfect there. I bring my broken heart to the Father and He holds me, no condemnation, no disappointment—just LOVE.
The Father isn't waiting for you to pull yourself together and smile. He's sitting with you in the bathroom, collecting your tears in a bottle, whispering 'I've got you, daughter—you don't have to be strong right now; I'll be strong FOR you.'
