"I need to make peace with God before I die or face judgment."
How it sounds in your head: You need to get right with God. Confess everything. Make sure there's no unfinished business. You're running out of time to get your spiritual house in order before you stand before Him.
"Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life."
-- John 5:24Religious fear teaching that salvation and acceptance depend on final performance review rather than finished work of Christ.
Death feels imminent and every sermon about judgment day echoes in her mind. She's terrified there's some unconfessed sin or unforgiven offense that will disqualify her at the gates.
This man had no time to 'get right with God,' make restitution, attend church, or clean up his life. He simply said 'Jesus, remember me' while literally dying. Jesus' response was instant: 'TODAY you will be with Me in Paradise.' No judgment, no waiting period, no spiritual checklist—immediate acceptance.
I REFUSE the lie that I need to 'get right' with God before I die. IT IS WRITTEN that whoever believes has everlasting life and SHALL NOT come into judgment. I have already passed from death to life—not when I die, NOW. IT IS WRITTEN in Romans 8:1 that there is NO condemnation for those in Christ. The thief on the cross had no time to clean up and Jesus said 'Paradise TODAY.' I am not approaching judgment; I am approaching the Father who's been waiting to embrace me. I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus, not because I got everything right but because HE did. I am fully accepted NOW.
The Father isn't waiting at heaven's gates with a clipboard checking if you confessed everything. He's waiting like the prodigal's father—watching the road, ready to RUN toward you, embrace you, throw a party, because you're His beloved daughter and Jesus already took your judgment 2,000 years ago.
