"I have to be inspirational to justify taking up space."
How it sounds in your head: People call you 'so inspiring' just for existing, living your life. It feels like you have to perform gratitude, be the uplifting story, never complain, always be brave—because if you're NOT inspirational, what's the point? You're exhausted from being everyone's motivation while you're just trying to live.
"So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them."
-- Genesis 1:27Ableism's expectation that disabled people exist to inspire able-bodied people rather than simply being allowed to exist as full humans with bad days and complex emotions.
You've been praised for 'basic' things, called brave for going to the grocery store, held up as inspiration porn. It feels like conditional acceptance—you're valued IF you're inspirational, burdensome if you're not.
Disabled beggar covered in sores, not doing anything 'inspirational'—just existing, suffering, hoping. When he died, angels carried him IMMEDIATELY to Abraham's bosom. He didn't have to earn heaven by being brave about his sores. He was BELOVED simply because he was God's child. No performance required.
I REFUSE the lie that I must be inspirational to justify my existence. IT IS WRITTEN that I am made in God's IMAGE—that alone justifies my space on this planet. I am not here to be inspiration porn for able-bodied comfort. The BARAK blessing is on my LIFE, not my performance of positivity. IT IS WRITTEN that God chose me before I did ANYTHING—which means my value is intrinsic, not earned by being brave. I have permission to have BAD DAYS, to complain, to be human. I exist because GOD SAID SO, and that's enough.
The Father doesn't love you more on your 'inspirational' days and less on your struggling days—He loves you FULLY, constantly, wildly on your worst day, your complaining day, your 'I can't do this anymore' day. You don't have to perform for His love. You already have it ALL.
