"I got an abortion and then came to Christ, but my sin was pre-grace so it doesn't count."
How it sounds in your head: I know Jesus forgives sins after you're saved, but this happened before. I didn't know Him then. Does His blood even cover what I did when I was in the world? Maybe I needed to be saved BEFORE this to be truly clean.
"But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
-- Romans 5:8Source: Religious confusion about the retroactive power of the cross, treating salvation like it only covers future sins.
The timeline feels like it matters—if you did it before knowing Him, how can His blood apply backwards?
Paul murdered Christians, dragged women to prison, and tried to destroy the church BEFORE his salvation. He called himself the chief of sinners. God made him an apostle anyway and said he received mercy specifically because he 'did it ignorantly in unbelief.'
I REFUSE the lie that my pre-salvation sins are too old for the cross to cover. IT IS WRITTEN that while I was STILL a sinner, Christ died for me—every sin I committed before knowing Him is exactly why He came. Paul murdered believers before salvation and became an apostle. The thief on the cross had an entire criminal life and Jesus gave him paradise THAT DAY. IT IS WRITTEN that as far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed my transgressions—no timeline limits, no 'before or after' clauses. I am washed white, completely clean, fully forgiven. The BARAK blessing over my life isn't dated from my salvation; it's an eternal covenant that erased my entire past.
The Father sees the guilt you carry from your 'before Christ' life and He's saying 'THAT'S WHAT THE CROSS WAS FOR.' He didn't die for the sins you committed after getting it right—He died for the mess.
