"I give love well, but I'm fundamentally unable to receive it. Something is broken in me."
How it sounds in your head: You're a great friend, mother, wife—you GIVE love easily. But when someone tries to love YOU, you deflect, minimize, or panic. You're wired wrong for receiving love. You're a one-way street.
"We love Him because He first loved us."
-- 1 John 4:19Trauma pattern of earning worth through service, making receiving feel dangerous or indulgent.
Receiving DOES feel uncomfortable. You've spent decades giving and it feels safer than the vulnerability of receiving. You don't know how to just be loved without doing something.
Martha served frantically while Mary just SAT at Jesus' feet, receiving. When Martha complained that Mary wasn't helping, Jesus said Mary chose the 'good part'—RECEIVING His presence was better than DOING for Him.
I REFUSE the lie that I can't receive love. IT IS WRITTEN that we love BECAUSE He first loved us—receiving is my foundation, not my failure. I was loved BEFORE I could perform. IT IS WRITTEN in John 15:9 that I am to ABIDE in His love—abiding is receiving, not achieving. The BARAK blessing flows TO me, not just THROUGH me—I am blessed, filled, cherished. I receive His love NOW and let it fill every broken place.
Your Father isn't impressed by your service. He's captivated by your presence. Mary did the 'good part' by just BEING with Jesus, receiving His love. Stop DOING long enough to be held. The prodigal didn't earn the robe—he just stood there and LET his father love him.
