"I failed as a mother. My kids' struggles prove I messed them up beyond repair."
How it sounds in your head: If I'd been a better mom, they wouldn't be struggling now. Their bad choices, their pain, their rebellion - it all traces back to what I did wrong. Everyone can see I failed at the most important job.
"The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not bear the guilt of the father, nor the father bear the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself."
-- Ezekiel 18:20Enemy + Religion: Performance parenting says kids' outcomes prove your worth, but God says you're RIGHTEOUS regardless.
Your adult children's struggles feel like public report cards on your mothering. Every therapist visit, every divorce, every addiction feels like evidence of your failure. The mom-guilt is crushing and constant.
Raised twin sons in the same home with the same blessings. Esau became violent and vengeful, Jacob became a deceiver and manipulator. Different outcomes, same parents - because children have FREE WILL regardless of perfect or imperfect parenting.
I REFUSE the lie that my kids' struggles prove I failed as a mother. IT IS WRITTEN that the son does not bear the father's guilt, nor the father the son's - their choices are THEIR choices. God Himself had perfect children who rebelled. I am not condemned by their struggles. IT IS WRITTEN there is NO CONDEMNATION in Christ Jesus - not even mother-guilt. I am a GOOD mother because God says I'm RIGHTEOUS, not because my kids never struggle. The BARAK blessing flows to my children through ME because I am Abraham's seed by faith. I speak LIFE over them and declare BREAKTHROUGH over their lives RIGHT NOW.
The Father isn't grading your mothering by your children's current condition. He's calling you BELOVED DAUGHTER and reminding you that even He had rebellious children. Your identity is GIFT, not grade.
