"I don't know how to be a good friend. I always mess it up somehow."
How it sounds in your head: You forget birthdays. Miss signals. Say the wrong thing when they need comfort. Give advice when they want listening. You're friendship-incompetent. Better to keep distance than keep failing.
"Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ."
-- Philippians 1:6Performance mentality from religion repackaged as friendship—making love a test you can fail.
You've seen the disappointment when you got it wrong. Forgotten important dates. Given terrible advice. Been 'there' but not really THERE. The failure resume is long.
Peter denied Jesus THREE times, the ultimate friendship failure. Jesus could have written him off. Instead, He met him on the beach, asked 'Do you love Me?' three times (one for each denial), and INSTANTLY restored him to leadership. Failure didn't disqualify—it became the foundation for future faithfulness.
I REFUSE the lie that I'm incompetent at friendship. IT IS WRITTEN that He who began a good work in me WILL complete it—I'm not a lost cause, I'm a masterpiece in progress. My Father is teaching me how to love like HIM. IT IS WRITTEN that I'm being transformed from glory to glory—that includes my friendships. I don't have to be perfect to be present. My mistakes don't define me—His GRACE does. I'm becoming the friend people thank God for.
The Father is running toward you with coaching, not condemnation, whispering 'watch how I love you, then do that with them.' He's not grading your friendship skills—He's downloading His own into you while you sleep, and you're about to surprise yourself.
