"I don't have the gift of spiritual warfare; some people are called to this, but not me."
How it sounds in your head: That girl in your church seems to have this prophetic gift where she discerns spiritual attack and knows exactly what to pray. Another friend talks about spiritual warfare like it's her ministry lane. You just want to love Jesus and serve people - all this talk about demons and principalities feels like a specific calling you don't have. Maybe you're called to other things.
"For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places."
-- Ephesians 6:12Source: Religion divides the body into specialists, making spiritual warfare optional for certain believers rather than basic equipment for all.
You've seen people who seem wired for this - they're vigilant, discerning, bold in confronting darkness. You're more the encouraging, serving type. It feels like trying to force yourself into a role that doesn't fit your personality or gifting.
Deborah was a wife, a prophetess, a judge - her main role was settling disputes under a palm tree. She didn't sign up to lead Israel's army into battle against 900 iron chariots. Yet when the moment came, she spoke God's battle strategy, went to the front lines, and declared victory. She didn't wait for a military calling - she stewarded the authority she had in the moment she needed it.
I REFUSE the lie that spiritual warfare is optional or only for certain believers. IT IS WRITTEN that WE wrestle against principalities and powers - every single believer is in this battle whether we feel called or not. I am not exempt from the enemy's attacks, therefore I am not exempt from using the authority Christ gave me to counter them. The armor of God isn't suggested equipment for the spiritually inclined - it's standard issue for every child of God. IT IS WRITTEN that I have the blessing of Abraham, the blessing that sent terror on entire cities to protect Jacob's family even after they murdered. The BARAK doesn't require a specific calling - it flows from covenant. I carry the authority of Christ's name, the power of His blood, and the presence of His Spirit regardless of my personality or preferred ministry lane.
Your Father didn't divide His children into warriors and civilians. He put all of you on the battlefield and gave all of you the same armor, the same weapons, the same authority. You don't need a special calling to use what He's already given you. The moment you're in Christ, you're equipped for every attack you'll face.
