"I don't deserve to move forward and be happy after what I did."
How it sounds in your head: Other people deserve good things, but not me. Not after this. I should stay in this place of regret—it's only right. Happiness would be an insult to what happened.
"For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him."
-- 2 Corinthians 5:21Religious teaching that positioned you as earning good things through right behavior, making you unqualified when you fail.
You see people who haven't done what you did living blessed lives, and it feels wrong that you should have the same. The contrast between your failure and their success feels like proof you're disqualified.
Lived an entire life of crime, was being executed for it, had zero time to 'prove' repentance or make amends. Jesus said 'TODAY you will be with Me in Paradise'—instant, complete, undeserved acceptance.
I REFUSE the lie that my happiness is based on what I deserve. IT IS WRITTEN: I have 'become the righteousness of God in Him'—not through my merit but through His. I don't deserve blessing, but I'm Abraham's seed, an heir of the BARAK covenant that blessed LIARS, DECEIVERS, and MURDERERS. IT IS WRITTEN: 'He has made us ACCEPTED in the Beloved'—not because I'm acceptable but because HE is. The thief on the cross got paradise in hours—I get the same gospel. The Father didn't tell the prodigal 'You don't deserve the party'—He threw it ANYWAY. I declare I am RIGHTEOUS, ACCEPTED, and QUALIFIED by the blood, not by my record.
The Father isn't withholding happiness until you've earned it back—He's inviting you to the feast RIGHT NOW, robe and ring already in His hands. Your refusal to be happy is you rejecting His gift while calling it humility.
