"God forgave me, but I can't forgive myself for what I've done."
How it sounds in your head: Every time I look in the mirror, I see what I did. God might have moved on, but I'm stuck replaying it. How can I just let myself off the hook when I know better?
"And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross."
-- Colossians 2:13-14Religion taught that self-punishment proves sincerity, making her believe forgiveness requires her own approval first.
She feels the weight of her choices and thinks releasing herself would be irresponsible. The shame feels like proof she cares about doing right.
Manasseh sacrificed his own children to demons, filled Jerusalem with innocent blood, and led Israel into horrific evil for 55 years. When he finally cried out to God from captivity, God IMMEDIATELY restored him to his kingdom and his heart.
I REFUSE the lie that I must earn the right to forgive myself. IT IS WRITTEN that God has forgiven me ALL trespasses and wiped the record clean. I am not the judge of what Jesus finished on the cross. IT IS WRITTEN that there is NO condemnation for me in Christ Jesus. I receive what He declared over me—completely forgiven, fully restored, eternally clean. The BARAK blessing rests on me by covenant, not by my ability to process my past perfectly. I walk in the freedom Jesus purchased.
The Father isn't waiting for you to 'feel' forgiven enough to move forward—He's already running toward you with the robe and ring. Your inability to forgive yourself doesn't change what He already declared finished.
