"I can't escape this oppression until I figure out what I did to cause it."
How it sounds in your head: Something feels dark or heavy on me and adults are asking 'what did you do' or 'what opened the door.' I'm searching my memory for what I did wrong, thinking I can't be free until I identify and confess the exact sin that started this.
"Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed."
-- John 8:36Source: Religious deliverance model making freedom contingent on FINDING THE CAUSE, which puts the burden on the child's memory/performance instead of Christ's FINISHED WORK that already addressed every cause.
Well-meaning adults DO ask those questions during prayer ministry, and he CAN'T find freedom through his own searching, which confirms the model. He doesn't know freedom comes from DECLARING Christ's victory, not DISCOVERING his failure.
Disciples asked Jesus 'WHO sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?' trying to find the CAUSE. Jesus said 'NEITHER' and INSTANTLY healed him without addressing cause - just spit, mud, 'Go wash,' and immediate sight, proving freedom doesn't require finding the root.
I REFUSE the lie that I must find what caused this before I'm free. IT IS WRITTEN if the Son makes me free, I am free INDEED - freedom comes from HIS work, not my detective work. IT IS WRITTEN Jesus proclaimed liberty to captives and opened prisons - HE does the opening. When disciples asked WHO sinned to cause blindness, Jesus said NEITHER and healed him INSTANTLY without addressing cause. I don't need perfect understanding - I need to RECEIVE His finished work. The blood of Jesus cleanses me from ALL sin, remembered and forgotten. I AM FREE by declaration, not discovery.
Your Father doesn't make you dig through your past to earn freedom - He offers it FREELY right now based on Christ's blood, no cause-finding required. Like the blind man was healed without ever knowing why he was blind, you receive INSTANT freedom by simply receiving what Jesus already purchased, zero investigation needed.
