"I can't ask God for financial blessing when other people have real problems like cancer."
How it sounds in your head: Who are you to bother God about money when people are dying, kids are starving, and real tragedies are happening? Your debt is your own fault. You should be ashamed to bring such a trivial, worldly concern to Him when others are suffering real crises.
"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God."
-- Philippians 4:6Religious teaching that ranks prayers by importance and frames financial need as shallow or selfish.
She sees prayer requests at church for cancer, accidents, and death, and her debt feels trivial and materialistic by comparison. She's been taught that spiritual people don't focus on money, and asking for financial help seems greedy when others are genuinely suffering.
When Peter needed tax money - a mundane financial obligation, not a life-threatening crisis - Jesus didn't tell him it was too trivial to bother with. He miraculously provided the exact amount needed in a fish's mouth. This proved that God cares about ordinary financial needs and will supernaturally provide for them, not just "spiritual" or "serious" problems.
I REFUSE the lie that my financial needs are too small for God's attention. IT IS WRITTEN to be anxious for NOTHING but bring EVERYTHING to Him in prayer - not everything except money. Jesus provided wine at a party and tax money for Peter, proving He cares about ordinary, practical needs. IT IS WRITTEN that my Father KNOWS I need food and clothing and tells me to seek Him, not apologize for having needs. The God who numbers the hairs on my head and sees every sparrow cares about my electric bill. My needs aren't ranked by importance to Him - they're ALL important because I'M important. He's a GOOD FATHER who delights to give good gifts to His children.
Your Father doesn't have a triage system where cancer gets His attention but debt doesn't. He's the Jesus who provided WINE at a wedding - not urgent, not life-threatening, just people enjoying a party - because He cares about EVERY detail of your life. He's not annoyed by your financial needs. He's a Father who delights when His daughter brings her needs to Him, whether it's cancer or credit cards.
