"I can never serve in church leadership again because I'm divorced."
How it sounds in your head: They quietly removed me from the worship team. When I asked about leading a small group, they said 'maybe in a few years.' I feel like I'm sitting in the back row spiritually, watching others serve while I'm benched. My gifts feel wasted.
"But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty."
-- 1 Corinthians 1:27Religious interpretation of 'husband of one wife' passages that creates a permanent disqualification class.
Churches actually DO remove divorced people from leadership, teaching positions, and ministry roles, confirming that you're now second-tier in God's kingdom work.
Peter didn't just fail - he DENIED JESUS three times with cursing while Jesus was being tortured. By religious standards, he should be permanently disqualified. Fifty days later, Jesus made him the KEYNOTE SPEAKER at Pentecost, where 3,000 people were saved through his message.
I REFUSE the lie that divorce disqualifies me from ministry and leadership. IT IS WRITTEN in 1 Corinthians 1:27 that God CHOOSES the weak things to shame the mighty. Peter DENIED Jesus with cursing and became the Pentecost preacher with 3,000 saved. IT IS WRITTEN in 2 Corinthians 5:17 that I am a NEW CREATION - old things have passed away, ALL things have become new. My past does not define my calling. God doesn't bench people for being broken; He PROMOTES them. The BARAK blessing anointed Jacob the DECEIVER to father the twelve tribes. My calling is based on COVENANT, not my marriage certificate.
Your Father isn't holding your divorce over your head, waiting for you to 'prove yourself' before He lets you serve. He's already RUNNING toward you with the robe of authority and the ring of restored identity, eager to showcase what His grace can do through someone the religious system rejected.
