"I'll never trust anyone again—this proved relationships are traps and people always leave."
How it sounds in your head: I opened up, I trusted, I gave everything, and it ended in betrayal and pain. Why would I ever do that again? The walls are up now, and they're staying up. Love is a con, vulnerability is weakness, and I'm done being the fool who believes.
"He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds."
-- Psalm 147:3Source: Trauma response that generalizes one experience into a universal truth, creating self-protection through isolation and cynicism.
The betrayal was real, the pain was real, and the instinct to protect yourself feels like wisdom—better a fortress than another wound.
Peter denied Jesus three times, betrayed Him in His darkest hour, then hid in shame. Jesus could have written him off—'never trust Peter again.' Instead, Jesus RESTORED him on the beach, asked 'Do you love Me?' three times, and recommissioned him to lead the church.
I REFUSE the lie that I can never trust again. IT IS WRITTEN that God HEALS the brokenhearted and binds up wounds—He is restoring my capacity for trust and love. One betrayal does not define all relationships. IT IS WRITTEN to trust in the Lord with all my heart, and HE will direct my paths. I choose faith over fear, healing over hardness. The BARAK blessing includes safe, healthy, life-giving relationships, and God is bringing those into my life at the right time. I am not a fool for trusting; I am BRAVE for remaining open to love. My future is full of connection, not isolation.
The Father isn't asking you to trust recklessly or pretend the pain didn't happen. He's gently healing your heart, teaching you wisdom, and preparing you to trust again—this time with HIS discernment guiding you. Walls keep out pain, but they also keep out life. He's making a door where there was only stone.
