"Good Christians should be content with little and not desire abundance or nice things."
How it sounds in your head: Church people always talk about 'being content' like wanting more is a sin. Like if I'm dreaming about success or nice things, I'm not spiritual enough. Real Christians are supposed to be okay with barely scraping by.
"Let them shout for joy and be glad, who favor my righteous cause; and let them say continually, 'Let the LORD be magnified, who has pleasure in the prosperity of His servant.'"
-- Psalm 35:27Source: Religion twisting contentment verses to suppress God-given desire for abundance.
He's heard contentment sermons weaponized against ambition. Philippians 4:11 quoted to shame desire for increase, making wanting more feel like lack of faith or gratitude.
Solomon asked for wisdom, not wealth. God gave him wisdom PLUS 'riches and honor, so that there shall not be anyone like you among the kings all your days'—abundance he didn't even request because God DELIGHTS in blessing His kids.
I REFUSE the lie that desiring abundance is unspiritual. IT IS WRITTEN that God takes PLEASURE in my prosperity. I am content IN Christ while receiving INCREASE from Christ. The BARAK blessing makes me the head, not the tail—above only, not beneath. IT IS WRITTEN that my God supplies all my need according to His riches in glory. I desire abundance without shame because my Father runs toward me with MORE than enough.
Your Father isn't proud of you for settling—He's RUNNING toward you with the robe, ring, and fattened calf. He takes PLEASURE in your prosperity, celebrates your success, and loves seeing you thrive because that's what FATHERS do.
