"Going to therapy means I'm broken beyond what Jesus can fix—it's admitting defeat."
How it sounds in your head: I heard someone say 'The Word is the only counseling you need' and another person said seeking therapy is 'looking to man instead of God.' Every time I think about making an appointment, I feel like I'm giving up on God fixing me. Like I'm saying Jesus isn't enough or His healing isn't real.
"Where there is no counsel, the people fall; but in the multitude of counselors there is safety."
-- Proverbs 11:14False teaching that positions therapy as competition with Jesus rather than tool from His provision, making help-seeking equal abandoning faith.
Religious culture often frames human help as 'Plan B' when God 'fails,' creating shame around needing professional support. She wants to honor Jesus but feels trapped between needing help and appearing to abandon faith.
Moses tried to counsel all Israel alone until burnout, and his father-in-law Jethro said 'This is too much for you—you need HELP.' Moses accepted counsel and established a system of multiple counselors. God didn't rebuke him for 'not trusting God enough'—He provided the WISDOM through Jethro to create support structure.
I REFUSE the lie that therapy means Jesus can't fix me. IT IS WRITTEN that in a MULTITUDE of counselors there is safety—God invented the concept of needing multiple voices. Jesus isn't intimidated by therapists; He often SPEAKS through them. I am not broken beyond repair—I am WHOLE in Him, and therapy is a tool to help me walk in that reality. IT IS WRITTEN in James 1:5 that God GIVES wisdom generously, including through trained professionals. The BARAK blessing means I have FAVOR in the counselor's office and divine appointments with helpers God has prepared.
Your Father isn't sitting in heaven with His arms crossed saying 'I guess I'm not enough for her.' He's the one who gave that therapist their education, who whispers insights during your sessions, who celebrates every breakthrough. He's not threatened by your need for help—He's THE ONE providing it.
