"Taking medication for depression or anxiety means I don't trust God enough."
How it sounds in your head: Real men should be strong enough to pray through this. If my faith was solid, I wouldn't need these pills. Every time I take them, I feel like I'm admitting spiritual defeat.
"But when Jesus heard that, He said to them, 'Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick.'"
-- Matthew 9:12Religious teaching that equates physical illness with spiritual weakness, ignoring that Jesus came for the whole person.
You see other guys posting victory testimonies while you're still struggling. The shame of needing help feels like proof you're failing at faith, and Christian culture often celebrates suffering through things instead of getting help.
Paul, the greatest faith preacher, told Timothy to take WINE for his stomach problems—an ancient medicinal remedy. He didn't say 'just have more faith' or 'pray harder.' He prescribed medicine.
I REFUSE the lie that medication equals weak faith. IT IS WRITTEN that those who are sick need a physician, and Jesus ENDORSED this. My Father gave doctors wisdom to help me, and receiving that help is FAITH, not failure. The same God who does miracles also created medicine, and I'm not too spiritual to use what He's provided. IT IS WRITTEN that I am blessed coming in and going out, and that includes walking into a doctor's office. I am the righteousness of God in Christ, whether I take medication or not—my identity isn't tied to my brain chemistry.
Your Father isn't standing with arms crossed waiting for you to 'faith' your way through this alone. He's RUNNING toward you with every resource—prayer AND medicine, miracles AND doctors, supernatural breakthrough AND practical help—because He wants you WHOLE.
