"God must be angry at me to let me get this sick."
How it sounds in your head: I prayed for protection and still got sick. Maybe God is mad at me for something. Maybe I didn't obey fast enough. Maybe He's disappointed and this is His way of showing it. He could have stopped this and didn't.
"Through the LORD's mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness."
-- Lamentations 3:22-23Source: Trauma and religion warping God's nature into a conditional angry Father.
When his earthly dad is disappointed, there are consequences. If God is Father, then sickness must be a consequence for disappointing Him. It feels like being grounded by heaven.
The prodigal son blew his inheritance on prostitutes, ended up in a pig pen, and came home expecting punishment. Instead, the father RAN to him while he still smelled like pigs, kissed him, put a robe on him, and threw a party. From pig pen to party in 15 minutes. No anger—only joy.
I REFUSE the lie that God is angry at me. IT IS WRITTEN that His compassions are NEW every morning—not yesterday's disappointment recycled, but TODAY's fresh mercy. God isn't waiting for me to perform better before He heals me. He's not punishing me with sickness to teach me a lesson. Jesus took God's anger at sin on the cross so there's NONE left for me. IT IS WRITTEN there is NO condemnation for those in Christ. I am not under God's frown; I'm under His FAVOR. The BARAK blessing covered Abraham's lies, Jacob's deceptions, and still PROTECTED them. I am in BETTER covenant. My sickness doesn't prove God's anger; my healing will prove His LOVE.
Your Father isn't standing far off with arms crossed waiting for you to figure out what you did wrong. He's running toward you with healing in His hands, and He's not even asking you to clean up first. That's not anger—that's ridiculous love.
