"God is withholding a relationship because I haven't gotten myself together yet."
How it sounds in your head: Maybe once I've advanced in my career, have more money saved, overcome this addiction, or become more spiritually mature, then I'll be ready and God will bring someone. I need to earn the blessing by becoming worthy of it.
"But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
-- Romans 5:8Performance religion that says God's gifts are rewards for behavior, not covenant promises.
Church culture constantly implies readiness requirements—'work on yourself first,' 'you can't love someone until you love yourself,' 'get right with God before He blesses you'—and your current struggles seem like disqualifications.
Jacob was a deceiver running from his brother with nothing but a staff when God promised him descendants and land. Before any character transformation, while still manipulating everyone around him, God gave him Rachel and Leah, building his family while he was still a schemer.
I REFUSE the lie that I must get myself together before God blesses me with relationship. IT IS WRITTEN that while I was STILL A SINNER, Christ died for me—He didn't wait for me to qualify. My Father gives gifts to MESS-UPS, not graduates. IT IS WRITTEN that salvation and every blessing flows from GRACE, not my readiness or worthiness. I am the righteousness of God in Christ RIGHT NOW, not after I fix everything. The BARAK blessing operated on Abraham the liar, Isaac the coward, and Jacob the deceiver BEFORE they changed. I don't earn covenant promises—I receive them by GRACE. My Father is not waiting for me to become worthy—He's running toward me NOW with the robe, ring, and sandals.
Your Father isn't watching you struggle toward worthiness before He moves. He's the Father who threw the party for the son who wasted everything—He celebrated him BEFORE the son proved anything. Your 'together' status doesn't unlock His gifts—His nature as Giver does.
