"God is using this sickness to build character I wouldn't develop otherwise."
How it sounds in your head: Maybe I needed to be broken down to be built back stronger. Healthy people can be shallow - this suffering is forging something in me that ease never could. It's painful refinement.
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law."
-- Galatians 5:22-23Source: Religion - making God the author of sickness instead of the Holy Spirit the author of character.
You HAVE changed through the suffering and need to believe it wasn't wasted. The idea that hardship builds character is culturally accepted and feels wise, giving nobility to your nightmare.
She got sick and DIED - full of good works and character, yet death still came. Peter arrived, put everyone out, prayed, and said 'Tabitha, arise' - she immediately opened her eyes, sat up, and he presented her alive, proving death and sickness aren't God's character-building tools.
I REFUSE the lie that God uses sickness to build my character. IT IS WRITTEN that the fruit of the SPIRIT produces character - love, joy, peace flow from abiding in Christ, not from disease. Jesus had perfect character without sickness, and I have the same Spirit. My character is being formed by the Vine I'm attached to, not the disease trying to kill me. IT IS WRITTEN that no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly - sickness isn't a good thing. I am blessed under the BARAK covenant with health in my storehouses and strength in my body.
The Father isn't using disease as a chisel on your character - He's placed His own Spirit inside you who produces fruit naturally as you stay connected to Jesus. Like the prodigal received full sonship instantly, you receive full Spirit-character as a gift, not a process earned through suffering.
