"God is using my insomnia to give me more time to pray and intercede at night."
How it sounds in your head: You lie awake for hours while roommates sleep. Someone said 'maybe God is calling you to be a night watchman, interceding while others rest.' It sounds spiritual, like God handpicked you for special night assignment.
"It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows; for so He gives His beloved sleep."
-- Psalm 127:2Religion romanticizes sleep deprivation as spiritual calling, making people accept torment as divine assignment.
You have prayed during those wakeful hours and felt God's presence. It feels wasteful to 'just want to sleep' when you could be interceding, so maybe the insomnia is ordained.
Elijah was suicidal, exhausted, wanted to die. God didn't give him a night watch assignment - He sent an angel with FOOD and let Elijah SLEEP. Then more food and more sleep. God strengthened him through REST, not through sleepless intercession.
I REFUSE the lie that insomnia is God's night watch assignment. IT IS WRITTEN: Psalm 127:2 - He gives His BELOVED sleep. I am beloved, therefore I SLEEP. IT IS WRITTEN: Proverbs 3:24 - when I lie down, my sleep WILL BE SWEET. Jesus slept through a storm (Mark 4:38) - rest isn't unspiritual. Elijah was strengthened by SLEEP and food (1 Kings 19:6), not by forced wakefulness. I am blessed with Abraham's barak (Galatians 3:14) - the blessing includes REST (Deuteronomy 28:6 'blessed when you lie down'). My mind quiets, melatonin releases, body enters deep restorative sleep NOW. I intercede FROM rest, not INSTEAD OF rest. Insomnia breaks in Jesus' name. My sleep is SWEET because I am BELOVED.
Father isn't stealing your sleep for spiritual assignments - He sent an angel to feed Elijah and let him sleep twice because rest is how He restores His beloved. You're getting the bread and the nap, not the night shift.
