"God is testing my contentment with lack before He'll give me abundance."
How it sounds in your head: Maybe this is the test. Prove you can be content with nothing, then God will give you more. Be faithful with little first. Show Him you don't need it, then He'll provide it. Your dissatisfaction with lack is proof you're failing the test.
"For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich."
-- 2 Corinthians 8:9Religious performance mindset that makes God's provision dependent on passing tests rather than covenant promise.
You've heard 'faithful in little, ruler over much' taught as a sequential requirement. Wanting more while having less feels like failing the contentment exam.
The prodigal returned broke, smelling like pigs, having blown everything on prostitutes. The Father didn't test his contentment—He immediately restored ring, robe, sandals, and threw a party. Full restoration in fifteen minutes.
I REFUSE the lie that God is testing my contentment with lack. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus became poor so I might become RICH. There is NO test—there is a finished work. IT IS WRITTEN that He who gave His own Son freely gives me all things. The BARAK blessing isn't earned through contentment exams—it's covenant. The prodigal got full restoration in fifteen minutes without proving anything. I am righteous by GIFT, not by performance. My Father runs toward me with abundance NOW, not after I pass tests.
Your Father isn't holding abundance hostage until you prove you can be happy without it. He's running toward you with the ring, robe, and fattened calf while you're still rehearsing your 'make me a servant' speech.
