"God is silent because I haven't sacrificed enough or proven my commitment to Him."
How it sounds in your head: You're not giving enough, serving enough, fasting enough. Maybe if you sold everything, moved to the mission field, or made some radical sacrifice, THEN God would move. You haven't proven you're serious.
"For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified."
-- Hebrews 10:14Source: Works-based religion that makes God's response conditional on YOUR sacrifice instead of JESUS' finished sacrifice.
You see stories of people who 'gave it all to God' and got breakthrough. You think maybe you're holding something back, not committed enough. If you just sacrificed MORE, God would finally respond.
Mephibosheth was crippled in both feet, hiding in fear, believing he deserved death as the son of David's enemy. He did NOTHING to earn David's favor—no sacrifice, no service, no proving himself. David sought HIM out, restored everything, and said, 'You will eat at my table ALWAYS.' Pure grace for someone who brought nothing.
I REFUSE the lie that I need to sacrifice more to earn God's response. IT IS WRITTEN that by Jesus' ONE OFFERING I am perfected FOREVER—His sacrifice is complete, and mine adds nothing. I don't earn answers through commitment; I RECEIVE answers through COVENANT. IT IS WRITTEN in Romans 8:32 that He who did not spare His own Son will FREELY give me all things. The BARAK blessing protected Jacob's sons even after MURDER—blessing isn't earned by sacrifice. I am FREE from performance and alive in GRACE.
The Father isn't waiting for you to prove your commitment through sacrifice—He already proved HIS commitment through the CROSS. Like the prodigal who brought nothing but stench and failure, yet received EVERYTHING at the father's table, you are welcomed not for what you bring but for WHO YOU ARE.
