"God is punishing my child for my sin and mistakes."
How it sounds in your head: When my baby is sick or something goes wrong, I wonder if God is making them suffer because of what I did. Maybe if I'd made better choices, they'd have a better life.
"The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not bear the guilt of the father, nor the father bear the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself."
-- Ezekiel 18:20Old covenant religious thinking that imports generational curses into new covenant reality where Christ bore all punishment.
She sees challenges in her child's life that correlate with her past decisions. Religious messaging has taught her that consequences pass to children as divine punishment.
Disciples asked whose sin caused the man's blindness—his or his parents. Jesus said NEITHER—it happened so God's works could be displayed. Then He healed him instantly.
I REFUSE the lie that my child suffers for my past. IT IS WRITTEN that the son shall not bear the guilt of the father. Christ bore ALL curse at the cross—there is no punishment left for God to distribute. My child is under the BARAK blessing, not a generational curse. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus came to give life and give it abundantly. I stand in new covenant reality—my child is blessed coming in and going out, in health and provision, because they belong to me and I belong to Jesus. The Father runs toward my child with blessing, not away with punishment for my past.
The Father looks at your child and sees treasure, not a target for punishment. Every good gift comes from Him—He's not withholding or punishing; He's pouring out blessing on your whole household.
