"God is punishing me through this debt because of past financial sin and foolishness."
How it sounds in your head: Every bill feels like divine discipline. You wonder if God is teaching you a lesson through suffering, using poverty to build character through pain.
"And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross."
-- Colossians 2:13-14Old Covenant punishment theology applied to New Covenant believers, making God the author of suffering rather than Redeemer from it.
Churches teach that God uses hardship to teach lessons and the debt coincided with your foolish choices. It feels like cause and effect.
He was literally a convicted criminal dying for his crimes, with ZERO time to prove change or make restitution. Jesus promised him Paradise THAT DAY — full salvation with no punishment, no lesson-learning period, no earning it back.
I REFUSE the lie that God punishes me through financial hardship. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus nailed ALL punishment to the cross — there is NONE left for me. My Father doesn't use debt as discipline; He sent His Son to redeem me FROM the curse of poverty. IT IS WRITTEN in Romans 8:1 that there is NO CONDEMNATION for those in Christ Jesus. The thief on the cross got Paradise with zero restitution — I get breakthrough with zero punishment.
Your Father isn't the One keeping you in debt to teach you lessons. He's the One who bled to break every curse off you, who aches to see you free, who celebrates your breakthrough more than you do.
