"God is punishing me for past sexual sin by withholding a godly relationship now."
How it sounds in your head: I lived with boyfriends, had sex outside marriage, maybe even an abortion. I've repented a thousand times, but maybe I damaged myself too much. Maybe God forgave me but I still have to live with consequences. Other women stayed pure and got godly husbands. I forfeited that blessing through my choices.
"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from ALL unrighteousness."
-- 1 John 1:9Religious teaching that grace forgives but still requires payment through loss, denying the finished work of the cross.
The contrast is stark—friends who 'waited' seem to have solid marriages while her relationships crumbled. Purity culture taught that sexual sin has 'permanent consequences' even after repentance. Singleness feels like the bill coming due for past choices she can't undo.
She had FIVE husbands and was living with a man who wasn't her husband—serial sexual sin, public shame. Jesus didn't make her earn restoration; He revealed Himself as Messiah to HER FIRST, and she became the evangelist who brought her whole town to Jesus. Instant transformation, zero probation.
I REFUSE the lie that God is punishing me for past sexual sin by withholding relationship now. IT IS WRITTEN that if I confess my sins, He is faithful and just to forgive me and cleanse me from ALL unrighteousness. I am not damaged goods; I am BLOOD-BOUGHT and made completely righteous. Past sexual choices have NO AUTHORITY over my future because they are UNDER THE BLOOD OF JESUS. IT IS WRITTEN that there is NO CONDEMNATION for those in Christ Jesus. God does not withhold good gifts as punishment—He RUNS toward me with restoration. I stand in the BARAK blessing where Rahab the PROSTITUTE entered the Messianic line and married royalty. My past does not determine my future; Jesus' FINISHED WORK does. What God is bringing me will silence every accusation.
Your Father is not holding your past over your head—He threw it into the sea of forgetfulness the moment Jesus said 'It is finished.' He's running toward you with the ROBE of righteousness saying, 'You are PURE in My sight, and I'm bringing you someone who will treasure the redeemed woman you are, not the broken woman you were.'
