"I need to work on myself first before I'm ready for a relationship."
How it sounds in your head: You're a mess. You need therapy, healing, better finances, weight loss, spiritual maturity. You're not ready. No woman should have to deal with you like this. Fix yourself first.
"And He said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.' Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me."
-- 2 Corinthians 12:9Performance doctrine disguised as wisdom - making readiness a prerequisite instead of grace reality.
You see your weaknesses clearly. The debt, the dad bod, the unresolved issues. It feels responsible and mature to get your act together first. Loving yourself before loving someone else sounds healthy.
Peter denied Jesus three times, failed publicly, went back to fishing in shame. Jesus didn't make him earn restoration - He cooked him breakfast, restored him on the spot, and gave him leadership. INSTANT. No probation.
I REFUSE the lie that I must fix myself first. IT IS WRITTEN: 'My grace is SUFFICIENT for you, for My strength is made PERFECT in weakness.' I don't delay blessing until perfection; I RECEIVE blessing in process. I am the RIGHTEOUSNESS of God in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:21) - not becoming righteous, but AM righteous. IT IS WRITTEN: 'Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in me will COMPLETE it' (Philippians 1:6). HE completes me, not my self-improvement plan. I am READY because HE says I am, and growth happens through GRACE, not isolation.
Father doesn't see you as a project that needs completion before you're usable. He sees you as a SON - loved NOW, blessed NOW, ready NOW. The right woman will walk WITH you through growth, not wait on the sideline until you're perfect.
