"God is punishing me for past mistakes by refusing to answer until I've suffered enough."
How it sounds in your head: I messed up before and maybe God is making me pay for it by withholding what I'm praying for. He won't answer until I've learned my lesson or been punished enough.
"But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed."
-- Isaiah 53:5Religion teaching that God punishes sin post-cross, denying that punishment was FULLY satisfied on Jesus and projecting human vengeance onto Father's character.
Old Covenant stories show God withholding because of sin, and human parents often punish mistakes by withholding privileges. When prayers aren't answered after known sin, it feels like divine discipline or payback until the debt is settled.
Peter DENIED Jesus three times with cursing after bold promises of loyalty - ultimate betrayal and failure. When Jesus restored him, there was NO punishment period, no probation, no 'prove yourself' season - just immediate recommissioning to 'feed My sheep' and leadership restoration.
I REFUSE the lie that God punishes me post-cross. IT IS WRITTEN that the chastisement for my peace was upon JESUS - He took my punishment, leaving NONE for me. There is NO condemnation now for those in Christ - not 'less' or 'temporary' but ZERO. I am under the BARAK covenant where Abraham LIED and got richer, Jacob DECEIVED and stayed blessed, Peter DENIED Jesus and got instant restoration with zero punishment. IT IS WRITTEN in 1 John 4:18, 'There is no fear in love; perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves TORMENT. He who fears has not been made perfect in love.' My Father doesn't torment; He restores IMMEDIATELY like the Prodigal's father.
The Father isn't withholding until you've suffered enough - Jesus suffered COMPLETELY so you never have to. He's running toward you with celebration, not standing back with a punishment checklist. Your mistakes were nailed to the cross; there's no debt left to pay.
