"God is keeping score of my failures and the list is too long."
How it sounds in your head: Every time I mess up, God adds it to the list. The list must be huge by now. There's no way to get out from under all these mistakes.
"Who is a God like You, pardoning iniquity and passing over the transgression of the remnant of His heritage? He does not retain His anger forever, because He delights in mercy. He will again have compassion on us, and will subdue our iniquities. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea."
-- Micah 7:18-19Legalistic teaching of record-keeping God; enemy functions as accuser maintaining condemnation.
Pre-teens experience consequences for accumulated offenses at home and school. They assume God operates the same system, where past failures permanently count against them.
Paul murdered Christians, dragging men and women to prison, breathing threats of slaughter. Jesus appeared to him, instantly forgave him, and three days later sent Ananias to call him 'Brother Saul' and commission him as an apostle.
I REFUSE the lie that God is keeping score. IT IS WRITTEN that He casts all my sins into the depths of the sea, pardoning iniquity and delighting in mercy. There is no list. IT IS WRITTEN in Hebrews 8:12 that God will remember my sins no more. What God forgets can't be held against me. I stand in total forgiveness, not partial forgiveness. The blood of Jesus doesn't cover some sins and miss others—it covers ALL. The barak blessing doesn't depend on a clean record but on covenant. God's not counting; He's celebrating.
Your Father doesn't have a list—He has a love that erases faster than you can sin. While you're worried about the score, He's already forgotten it and moved on to blessing you.
