"God is frustrated I still haven't figured out my purpose by now"
How it sounds in your head: I'm in my mid-forties and still don't know what I'm 'supposed' to be doing. Other guys have clarity, direction, a clear calling. I'm still wandering, still trying to figure it out. God's waiting for me to get on track and I'm lost.
"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope."
-- Jeremiah 29:11Source: Modern purpose-driven theology that treats calling as a hidden treasure you must find rather than a Person you already have.
Career transitions, midlife questions, watching others with seeming clarity while he feels adrift. Every 'what's your purpose?' sermon increases the pressure. If God has a specific plan, why hasn't He shown it clearly by now? The confusion feels like evidence God's frustrated with his wandering.
Moses spent 40 years in Pharaoh's palace thinking he was somebody, 40 years in the desert thinking he was nobody, then at 80 YEARS OLD—when most men are retired—God said 'NOW you're ready' and gave him the greatest deliverance mission in history. INSTANT clarity at 80.
I REFUSE the lie that God's frustrated I haven't 'found my purpose.' IT IS WRITTEN: His thoughts toward me are PEACE, not pressure. My purpose is not a hidden plan I might miss—it's a PERSON I already have: Christ IN me, the hope of glory. IT IS WRITTEN: I am blessed in the city and in the field, blessed coming in and going out—no 'figuring it out' required. Moses got clarity at 80; Abraham at 75; Joseph after 13 years of confusion. I declare: I am NOT lost, late, or wandering aimlessly. God is LEADING me even when I can't see the destination. My purpose is simple: ABIDE in Him, and He produces the fruit. That's it.
While you're stressing about finding your purpose, the Father is gently whispering, 'You already have it—it's ME. Just stay close and I'll unfold everything in My timing.' He's not frustrated by your midlife questions; He's PRESENT in them, closer than your confusion.
