"God is disappointed I'm not following the path everyone expected for me."
How it sounds in your head: Everyone thought I'd go to that Christian college or pick that 'godly' career. Now I'm choosing something different and I feel like I'm letting God down. Like His plan was what they said and I'm ruining it.
"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope."
-- Jeremiah 29:11Source: religious expectation that God's will looks like everyone else's checklist of approved choices.
Authority figures have equated their preferences with God's voice, making any deviation feel like spiritual rebellion. The disappointment on faces around her feels like it must be on God's face too.
Amos wasn't a prophet or a prophet's son—he was a shepherd and fig farmer with zero religious credentials. God grabbed him from following the flock and made him a prophet anyway. No seminary, no expected path, just God saying 'Go' and that was enough.
I REFUSE the lie that God is disappointed in my choices. IT IS WRITTEN that His thoughts toward me are PEACE and good, to give me a future and hope. My Father isn't frustrated that I'm not following someone else's script—He's the one writing MY story. IT IS WRITTEN that He works ALL things together for good for those who love Him. I am covered by the BARAK blessing that made Abraham prosper in Egypt even when he LIED about his path. God's plan is bigger than one decision and better than religious expectation. I am FREE in Christ.
Your Father isn't standing at the 'approved path' with crossed arms. He's running beside you on the path YOU'RE on, turning it into gold under your feet because His presence makes ANY path blessed.
