"God is disappointed I'm not as spiritual as I used to be."
How it sounds in your head: Freshman year I was on fire—every Bible study, worship night, prayer meeting. Now I'm exhausted, barely reading my Bible, skipping church for sleep. God must be so disappointed watching me grow cold. I'm backsliding and He's heartbroken over me.
"Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest."
-- Matthew 11:28Source: religious works-righteousness that equates spiritual fervor with God's approval and interprets human exhaustion as spiritual failure.
She remembers the 'honeymoon phase' of faith and compares current exhaustion to past enthusiasm, interpreting the natural rhythm of life as disappointing God. Christian culture often shames seasons of rest as 'lukewarm.'
Right after the greatest spiritual victory of his life (defeating 450 prophets of Baal), Elijah collapsed in depression, wanting to die. God's response? Not a lecture on faith—He sent an angel with FOOD and let Elijah SLEEP. Twice. God met his exhaustion with rest, not disappointment.
I REFUSE the lie that God measures my worth by my spiritual activity level. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus invites me to REST when I'm weary—He's not disappointed by my exhaustion, He's offering me Himself. I am a BRANCH, and branches don't strive—they ABIDE. My fruitfulness comes from connection, not performance. IT IS WRITTEN that I am the righteousness of God in Christ, and that righteousness doesn't fluctuate with my Bible reading streak. I am Abraham's seed, blessed by COVENANT, not by my spiritual temperature. I receive His rest and approval right now.
The Father doesn't see 'backsliding'—He sees His exhausted daughter who needs rest. Like Elijah after the fire fell, He's not lecturing you on faith. He's bringing you bread and telling you to sleep, because He loves you more in your weariness than you could ever love Him in your fervor.
