"God is disappointed I haven't trusted Him more after everything He's already done."
How it sounds in your head: He's been faithful so many times before, and yet here I am still anxious, still doubting, still struggling to trust. After decades of seeing His provision, I should have unshakeable faith by now. God must be so disappointed in my persistent unbelief.
"Immediately the father of the child cried out and said with tears, 'Lord, I believe; help my unbelief!'"
-- Mark 9:24Source: Religious teaching that past faithfulness should automatically produce perfect present faith, making current struggle evidence of spiritual ingratitude and failure.
You can list God's faithfulness—prayers answered, needs met, crises survived—but when NEW fear comes, you still panic. The gap between what you KNOW and what you FEEL in the moment seems like proof you're disappointing God.
Had JUST seen Jesus perform miracles, yet panicked in the storm thinking they'd die—Jesus didn't condemn their fear. He CALMED THE STORM, then gently asked about their faith. He met their need FIRST, then addressed their hearts.
I REFUSE the lie that God is disappointed in my struggle to trust. IT IS WRITTEN that honest cries of 'help my unbelief' are MET with healing, not rejection. The disciples saw miracles and still feared in storms—and Jesus HELPED them. IT IS WRITTEN in Isaiah 42:3 that He will not break a bruised reed or snuff out a smoldering wick—my weak faith isn't REJECTED, it's tenderly HELPED. Every new crisis requires fresh trust, and He gives FRESH GRACE every time. I am not disappointing Him. I am being CARRIED by Him.
Your Father isn't disappointed by your anxious heart. He's wrapping His arms around you in the storm, calming the waves while whispering: 'I've got you. I've ALWAYS had you. And I'll help your unbelief every single time you ask.'
