"God allowed this sickness to teach me something I needed to learn."
How it sounds in your head: Maybe there's a reason for this. Maybe God is trying to get my attention, teach me patience, build my character, humble me, slow me down. I've heard testimonies of people saying 'cancer was the best thing that happened to me' or 'sickness taught me to depend on God.' Maybe I'm supposed to learn something before He heals me. Maybe this is His tool to shape me into who I need to be.
"How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him."
-- Acts 10:38Source: Religious teaching making God the author of evil, turning sickness into divine curriculum instead of enemy attack.
He's heard this from pulpits, read it in Christian books, seen it on social media from well-meaning believers. It sounds more spiritual than 'bad things just happen.' Making God the author gives the suffering meaning and purpose, which feels better than randomness. It also protects God's reputation—'He allowed it for a reason' sounds better than 'the enemy attacked and God didn't stop it.'
Satan—not God—struck Job with painful boils from head to foot, and Job's religious friends spent 37 chapters insisting God was teaching him something through suffering. God's actual response? He rebuked the friends for misrepresenting Him, then RESTORED everything to Job—gave him DOUBLE what he lost, healed him completely, and gave him 140 more years. God wasn't the author of Job's suffering; He was the RESTORER after enemy attack.
I REFUSE the lie that God authors sickness as curriculum. IT IS WRITTEN that Jesus healed ALL who were oppressed by the devil—sickness is ENEMY, not instructor. John 10:10 draws a clear line: the thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy; Jesus came that I might have LIFE abundantly. God doesn't need to make me sick to teach me—He has the Holy Spirit as my Teacher, the Word as my guide, and the body as my support. I am under the blessing of Abraham, and that blessing brings HEALTH, not sickness with hidden lessons. IT IS WRITTEN that every good and perfect gift comes from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning—He doesn't give sickness one day and healing the next. I receive divine health as my covenant right NOW. Father, You're running toward me with healing, not holding back lessons through pain.
Your Father isn't withholding healing until you learn some hidden lesson—He's running toward you RIGHT NOW with complete restoration while you're still confused about why this happened. Like the Prodigal's father, He's not interested in teaching moments; He's interested in CELEBRATION, restoration, and bringing you HOME to health.
