"Generous people are just naturally wired that way—I'm not, so God understands."
How it sounds in your head: Some people are just givers by personality. I'm more practical and analytical. God made me this way, so He doesn't expect me to be someone I'm not. My gift is stewardship, not generosity.
"So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver."
-- 2 Corinthians 9:7Source: Enemy's identity lie that makes stinginess a personality trait instead of a prison.
Personality tests and natural temperament are real. Some people light up giving; I light up saving and planning. Seems like God made us different on purpose.
Zacchaeus was a chief tax collector—literally a professional hoarder who extorted money for a living. One encounter with Jesus and he IMMEDIATELY gave half his possessions to the poor and repaid four times what he'd stolen. Nature changed instantly.
I REFUSE the lie that I'm not wired for generosity. IT IS WRITTEN that God loves a cheerful giver, and the fruit of the Spirit in me includes goodness and kindness—that's generosity. I am a branch connected to the Vine, and Jesus' nature flows through me. IT IS WRITTEN in John 15:5 that apart from Him I can do nothing, but IN Him I produce fruit automatically—and that fruit includes generosity. Zacchaeus the greedy tax collector became radically generous in one moment with Jesus. The BARAK blessing flowing through me makes me a conduit of abundance, not a container of scarcity.
Your Father didn't wire you for stinginess—He wired you for HIMSELF, and He is outrageously generous. The personality test that says you're 'not a giver' is old creation identity. You're a NEW creation, and the life in you is the same One who fed 5,000 from a kid's lunch.
