"Dad failed at marriage. I'll fail too. Divorce ruins everything and God can't use broken families."
How it sounds in your head: My dad got divorced and now everything's messed up. Kids at school say I'm from a 'broken home.' I'll probably fail at marriage too because that's just what happens in my family. God must be so disappointed in us.
"The son shall not bear the guilt of the father, nor the father bear the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself."
-- Ezekiel 18:20Enemy assignment through generational shame and religious condemnation of divorced families.
He sees the pain in his home and hears judgmental comments from church people. The statistics about 'children of divorce' feel like a destiny he can't escape.
Jephthah was the son of a prostitute, rejected by his half-brothers, driven from his family home and called worthless. God chose him anyway and made him a mighty warrior and judge who delivered Israel—his broken family background didn't disqualify him from God's greatest assignments.
I REFUSE the lie that my parents' divorce defines my future. IT IS WRITTEN that the son does not bear the guilt of the father. I am NOT a statistic or a 'broken home' kid—I am a child of the Most High God with my OWN covenant. IT IS WRITTEN that I am blessed coming in and going out, the head and not the tail. The BARAK blessing of Abraham is mine through Christ, regardless of what happened in my parents' marriage. My identity comes from my Father in heaven, not my family history. I declare breakthrough marriages, healthy relationships, and the blessing of God over my entire future.
The Father is running toward you right now, not holding your parents' choices against you. He sees you as completely clean, fully qualified, with a future so bright it would make you weep if you could see it—and your parents' divorce doesn't change ONE THING about His plans for you.
