"Christians who need therapy haven't learned to cast their cares on God."
How it sounds in your head: If I really gave my anxieties to Jesus, I wouldn't need a counselor. Therapy is admitting the Bible isn't sufficient, that Jesus plus nothing isn't actually enough.
"Where there is no counsel, the people fall; but in the multitude of counselors there is safety."
-- Proverbs 11:14Religion: equates psychological help with spiritual defeat, as if brain patterns are only fixed by prayer.
The church emphasizes 'casting cares' and 'renewing your mind,' and paying someone to process trauma feels like you couldn't figure out Scripture's promises yourself. Your therapy appointments feel like you're going outside God's provision.
Moses was burning out judging Israel alone until his father-in-law Jethro said 'This is not good' and gave him a structural plan for delegating. Moses, who spoke with God face-to-face, still needed outside counsel to function well.
I REFUSE the lie that seeking counsel means weak faith. IT IS WRITTEN that in the multitude of counselors there is safety (Proverbs 11:14). Moses talked with God directly and still needed Jethro's wisdom. Therapy is stewarding my mind the way doctors steward my body. IT IS WRITTEN that God gives wisdom through many advisers (Proverbs 15:22), and trained counselors are part of His provision. There is NO CONDEMNATION for needing help processing what I've carried - the BARAK blessing covers my mental health as much as my finances.
Your Father isn't disappointed you can't 'Bible-verse' your way out of complex trauma - He designed your brain to need processing, insight, and safe relationships. He's running toward you with a counselor's office as much as a prayer closet, celebrating that you're pursuing wholeness in every area.
